AES10

AES10 is the official name of the AES (Audio Engineering Society) standard that defines the multichannel digital audio interface known as MADI.

MADI stands for Multichannel Audio Digital Interface. It is a professional standard designed to transmit a large number of digital audio channels between equipment through a single cable, which can be coaxial (with BNC connectors) or fiber optic.

The AES10 standard specifies the MADI's ability to transmit:

  • 56 or 64 channels of digital audio at standard sampling frequencies (such as 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz).

  • Half the number of channels (28 or 32) by doubling the sampling frequency (e.g., 96 kHz), in a mode known as double-rate.

Due to its high capacity Due to its wide range of channels and reliability, MADI is widely used in live shows, broadcast (TV and radio transmissions), and large studios to connect mixing consoles to recorders, stage boxes, and other audio systems.
