Algorithm

An algorithm is a sequence of instructions, like a recipe, that describes step-by-step how to perform a specific task.

In general, an algorithm is a plan of action. It is the basis for creating computer programs, where the instructions are written in a programming language.

In Audio Effects

In the context of audio equipment, such as effect pedals or plugins, the term algorithm refers to the internal software that creates a specific sound effect.

Each effect (reverb, delay, chorus, etc.) is built from a different algorithm.

For example: Reverb Algorithm: It is a complex set of mathematical calculations that simulates the thousands of sound reflections that occur in an acoustic environment. Delay Algorithm: It is a simpler process that stores the audio and plays it back after a certain time. The quality and complexity of the algorithm determine how realistic, musical, and flexible a digital effect will sound. Leading manufacturers are known for developing their own sophisticated algorithms, which become the "sonic signature" of their products.
