Arming (arm)

Arming a track or channel (track) in a recorder or DAW means preparing it for recording.

Think of "arming" as unlocking the safety of a tool before using it. By pressing the "arm" button (usually a red button with an "R" or a flashing circle), you are telling the system: "When the main record button is pressed, record to this track."

  • Armed Tracks: Record the audio that is entering them when general recording is started. Channel monitoring usually switches to the live input sound (input).

  • Disarmed Tracks: Do not record anything, even with the system in recording mode. They continue to play audio that has already been recorded on them previously.

This function is essential for multitrack recording, as it allows you to add new recordings to specific tracks without erasing or overwriting the others.
