B-Type Plug
The Type B (or PO316) plug is a professional 1/4-inch plug format, primarily used in studio and broadcast patchbays.
Although it has the same diameter as the P10 (Type A) plug we use on guitars and headphones, the Type B plug has a much smaller and more rounded tip, originating from the telecommunications industry.
It is crucial to understand that Type A (P10) and Type B (PO316) plugs are incompatible. Trying to connect them may cause permanent damage:
P10 Plug in a Type B Jack: The large, angled tip of the P10 will force and damage the female connector of the patchbay.
Type B Plug in a P10 Jack: The small tip will not make the correct electrical contact and the plug will become loose.
Miniature Version: Bantam (TT)
There is a miniature version of the Type B Plug, known as TT (Tiny Telephone) or Bantam. It is much smaller and allows for a much higher density of connections, being the standard in modern large-scale professional patchbays.
