Bank

A Bank is a location in a device's memory (such as a synthesizer or sound module) where a set of sounds or settings is stored.

Think of a Bank as a drawer or folder where you keep your presets (also called patches or programs). Since a device's memory can store hundreds or thousands of sounds, Banks serve to organize them into groups.

Generally, a device has several Banks, and each Bank contains a fixed number of presets (for example, 128 presets).

To select a specific sound, you first select the Bank and then the Preset within that bank.

This selection can be made on the equipment's own panel or remotely via MIDI commands, known as Bank Select and Program Change.
