Cone

The Cone is the part of a loudspeaker, usually cone-shaped, that moves back and forth to create sound waves.

The cone is the most common diaphragm in bass (woofers) and midrange loudspeakers. It works like a piston:

  1. The "tip" of the cone (the narrowest part) is connected to the loudspeaker motor (the coil and magnet).

  2. The outer edge of the cone is attached to the loudspeaker chassis by a flexible suspension.

When the audio signal passes through the motor, it pushes and pulls the cone rapidly.

This back-and-forth movement compresses and rarefies the air, generating the sound waves we hear. The shape and material of the cone are crucial to the speaker's performance and timbre.
