DI
DI is short for Direct Instrument or Direct Inject, terms used to describe the recording technique known as direct injection. This method consists of connecting an electrical sound source, such as a bass, guitar, or keyboard, directly to the input of the audio system, instead of capturing the sound through a microphone positioned in front of an amplifier. This technique results in an extremely clean and isolated sound, free from the acoustic colorations of the room or leakage from other instruments. To make this connection correctly, a device called a Direct Box is generally used, which adjusts the impedance and signal level of the instrument so that it is compatible with the microphone input of the mixing console or interface.
