Digital
The term Digital describes a method of representing information, such as audio or video signals, through binary codes composed of sequences of numbers 1 and 0. While analog circuits operate with continuous voltage variations, digital audio circuits use discrete values to represent the signal at specific moments in time, known as samples. In a digital system, audio fidelity is governed by two fundamental rules. The first is that bandwidth, meaning the highest frequency that can be recorded, is limited by the sampling rate. The second is that the signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range, which defines the difference between the quietest and loudest possible sound, are determined by the digital word length, popularly known as bit depth.
