Driver
The term Driver has a double meaning in the universe of audio and technology. In the computational context, it is an essential piece of software that acts as a communication bridge between the computer's operating system and external hardware, such as an audio interface. The stability and efficiency of this software, such as in ASIO drivers, are crucial for ensuring low latency in recordings. In the context of physical sound reinforcement, the term refers to the electromechanical unit that generates sound. Although technically any loudspeaker is a driver, in the Brazilian market the term is often used specifically to designate compression drivers, which are the components responsible for mid and high frequencies coupled to horns in PA systems.
