EBU
EBU stands for European Broadcasting Union. It is a major professional association of national broadcasters that plays a critical role in defining technical standards and engineering practices for the audiovisual industry. Beyond its administrative role (like organizing Eurovision), the EBU is a technical authority. They research and publish specifications that ensure equipment interoperability and signal quality across borders. Their influence is perhaps most visible in the studio through the EBU R128 loudness standard, which shifted the industry from measuring peak levels to measuring perceived loudness (LUFS), and in the standardization of timecode formats (EBU Timecode) used for synchronization in film and video production.
