Eurorack is the most widely adopted hardware interface standard for modular synthesizers in the world today. Although it was initially established by Dieter Doepfer for his A-100 system based on existing industrial Eurocard specifications, it has evolved into a massive ecosystem supported by hundreds of manufacturers ranging from large corporations to boutique garage builders. The format specifies a vertical height of 3U for the front panels and relies on 3.5mm mono phone jacks for patching signals. Crucially, it defines a specific power distribution system using ribbon cables, typically with 10 or 16 pins, to deliver a dual-rail supply of positive and negative 12 volts, and often a positive 5-volt rail for digital circuitry, ensuring electrical compatibility across modules from different brands within the same enclosure.
